Vanderlyn Walk to School Day is Wednesday, October 4th!
The weather is too nice to sit in a car or bus- join us as Vanderlyn participates in Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 4th!
If it is too far to walk from your house, St.Luke’s Presbyterian Church is kindly allowing parents to park in their upper parking lot off of Manhasset Dr.
Please DO NOT park in the lower parking lot, as those are reserved parking spots for Dunwoody HS students.
So grab your friends, grab your neighbors and let’s get walking!!!
We need donations of water and snacks for our walkers!
Donations should be delivered to the front office on Tuesday, October 3rd.
Sign Up to Donate Snacks and Water!
Sign-up for Grounds Day!
Please join the Vanderlyn Grounds Committee, Saturday, October 21 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. to help spruce up our school. We will work together to clean up the grounds and gardens at Vanderlyn. . . pruning, planting, and rebuilding planters. We welcome all tools (shovels, rakes, gloves, trimmers, wheelbarrows) and all ages. Attend for any amount of time that fits your schedule.
Congratulations, Vanderlyn!
On Friday, September, 15th, State School Superintendent Richard Woods honored schools across the state that demonstrated high achievement in Reading on the Spring 2023 Georgia Milestones Assessment. This award is presented to administrative literacy leaders who have recognized the importance of building a culture of literacy within a school by offering literacy professional development, instructional resource support, and/or developing specific literacy programs to build capacity and increase student literacy achievement.
Vanderlyn was recognized as the top performing school in the DCSD with 96% achievement rate on the 3rd grade Georgia Milestones in Reading! State Superintendent Woods presented Vanderlyn with the prestigious Literacy Leader Award Banner for outstanding achievement in reading. Kudos to our amazing 3rd grade team, Mrs. Hamilton, Ms. Kaye, and Ms. Garcia (Spring 23) who exceeded the bar in literacy instruction!
International Night - Passport to the World!
October 19, 2023
The Vanderlyn PTO is excited to announce that we will once again be hosting Vanderlyn's annual International Night entitled Passport to the World this fall on October 19, 2023!!
What is Passport to the World?
It's an afterschool event where families are invited to come to Vanderlyn and tour the different tables showcasing various countries from around the world. Are you from, have lived in, or are passionate about another country? Then sign up to host that countries' exhibit. Our goal is for the Vanderlyn travelers to be able to see the flag and location of the country, learn a little about the history, customs, and people there, and possibly have a small taste of traditional food.
If you've never been to Passport to the World then please enjoy this video of our wonderful event from previous years.
How Can You Get Involved?
There are several ways to volunteer. You can host an exhibit, donate a tent for use, or help set up/break down the event afterwards.
Our PTO is excited to host the 16th Annual VanderDash 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, March 16, 2024!
Registration
Registration will open January 2024 and the Classroom Challenge will begin! The class in each grade level with the highest % of students registered will win a popsicle party.
$25 per runner for the 1 Mile Fun Run or the chip timed 5k.
Family Sponsorships are available for $150. Sponsorship includes up to 5 race entries (from one household only), a yard sign to proudly show your support, and your family’s name on the official website!

After School Extended Day Program
ASEDP Details and Reminders:
- ASEDP will begin on the first day of school and run from 2:30-6:00 pm each day that school is in session.
- Snacks are provided after school for students.
- All students must be picked up by 6:00 p.m. each day.
- The front office closes at 3:30; therefore, do not report to the front office to pick up your child(ren). Please pick up your child(ren) from the rear doors of the cafeteria which are located behind the school.
In order to register your child(ren) for the program, please print and complete the document located here. **PLEASE NOTE the following:
- A lottery was conducted at the beginning of June for families who have expressed interest in the program. All families will be required to fill out the registration form in order to attend.
- To be considered for a full-time slot in the program, account balances must be paid in full prior to registering for the 2023-24 school year. If you have a balance on your account, you will have the option to pay that in full during the Meet and Greet on August 2, 2023, which will then place your name in the second lottery drawing. This drawing also takes into consideration our families new to Vanderlyn, as well as those who are new to attending ASEDP.
- It is the expectation, per DCSD policy, that payment is received in advance. Full payment is required at LEAST two weeks in advance (monthly payments are greatly appreciated).
Please contact our ASEDP Co-Directors if you have any questions:
audrey_brunson@dekalbschoolsga.org
julia_weiss@dekalbschoolsga.org
The Vanderlyn After School Extended Day Program will operate from 2:30 pm-6:00 pm each day (for returning families, please note that the end time is now 6:00 pm, and not 6:15 pm).
