Shoe and Coat Drive - October 23-27
It is time to clean out your closets and gather your gently used shoes and coats to kick off our Shoe and Coat Drive!
Starting October 23, please donate all sizes of clean, gently used coats and winter shoes. There will be receptacles across from the front office during the drive week and also a bin during the “Passport to the World” event that will be held on Thursday, October 26.
To honor our school’s International month, this year all items will be donated to the International Rescue Committee, a non-profit organization that helps families uprooted by crisis to survive and rebuild their lives.
Save the Date for Passport to the World
Mark your calendars: One of Vanderlyn's signature events, Passport to the World, returns on October 26. It is an event that is fun and educational for the whole family, so join us at the bus turnaround from 5-7 p.m. for a memorable evening of culture and learning.
Updated Hurricane Irma Make Up Schedule
The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) will continue to add 20 minutes to its school day through Thursday, 11/30, in an effort to recapture much of the instructional time lost due to the storm known as Hurricane Irma. Other important aspects of this plan include:
- There will be no 20-minute extended day on Halloween, 10/31.
- DCSD schools and offices will remain open Election Day, Tuesday, 11/7 as the district ensures that students don't miss out on lessons vital to their academic achievement.
- Schools will be closed Nov. 20-24 for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
- Winter Break will remain as originally scheduled.
In sum, these moves will allow DCSD to recover three of the four days lost to Irma. The district will waive the fourth day.
